The Growth of Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures in China’s Medical Aesthetics Industry
Nonsurgical cosmetic procedures are on the rise in China, presenting a new growth opportunity for the medical aesthetics industry. With advanced regulations in place, noninvasive aesthetic techniques are becoming increasingly popular among beauty enthusiasts.
According to experts, nonsurgical aesthetic treatments offer high-level safety, short recovery time, low risk, and affordable prices, making them a preferred choice for consumers. Skin management and anti-aging are the two largest segments in terms of demand, with injectable procedures such as botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid fillers gaining traction.
By 2030, the market size of China’s nonsurgical medical aesthetics sector is expected to reach 415.7 billion yuan, nearly double the market size of surgical medical aesthetics. Globally, nonsurgical procedures already account for 55.7 percent of the total, indicating a shift towards less invasive treatments.
While online orders for cosmetic procedures are dominated by nonsurgical options, there are concerns about the industry’s over-reliance on digital marketing for customer acquisition. Some medical aesthetics institutions are using livestreaming to promote services with attractive prices, potentially putting consumers at risk if they do not consult a doctor beforehand.
In response to these challenges, China is stepping up efforts to advance supervision and regulations in the medical aesthetics industry. The State Administration for Market Regulation and other departments issued guidance in May 2023 to strengthen supervision and define medical aesthetics services as a type of medical activity.
As the industry moves towards more standardized practices and higher-level standards, the focus is on professional and advanced medical prowess to deliver high-quality services and ensure sustainable growth. With the rise of nonsurgical cosmetic procedures, the future of the medical aesthetics industry in China looks promising.
