Plastic Surgeon Reveals Why He “Quit” Ozempic: Weight Loss Rebound and Side Effects

Plastic Surgeon Quits Ozempic After Experiencing Side Effects

Renowned plastic surgeon Dr Terry Dubrow, known for his appearances on the reality show “Botched,” recently decided to try the weight loss drug Ozempic to better understand the treatment his patients are on. However, after experiencing side effects, he ultimately decided to “quit” the medication.

Dr Dubrow, who is not diabetic and only had a small amount of weight to lose, found the drug to be “amazing” but suffered from “some side effects” while taking it. Despite his positive views on the drug and its effectiveness in treating weight issues, he felt that the side effects, including low-grade nausea and a loss of appetite, were not worth it for him personally.

The medication, also known as semaglutide or Wegovy, works by impacting the brain to suppress appetite and maintain satiety. While Dr Dubrow praised the drug as a “miracle” for weight loss, he found that it took away the joy of eating and made him lose interest in food, especially during the holiday season.

In addition to his personal experience, Dr Dubrow warned about the dangers of drinking alcohol while on Ozempic, as it can lead to pancreatitis and other serious health issues. His co-star on “Botched,” Dr Paul Nassif, also noted that rapid weight loss from the drug can result in sagging skin and muscle loss, leading to an increase in plastic surgery procedures to address these issues.

As Ozempic gains popularity among celebrities and the general population for its weight loss benefits, regulatory agencies like the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia have introduced new rules to manage a shortage of the medication. These rules include prioritizing existing patients on the drug and limiting its use for new patients unless there are no suitable alternatives.

While Ozempic may offer significant benefits for weight loss, it is essential for individuals to consider the potential side effects and consult with healthcare professionals before starting or discontinuing the medication.
