Settlement Reached in Lawsuit Over Patient Death at Miami New Life Plastic Surgery

Settlement reached in lawsuit over death at New Life Plastic Surgery

The tragic death of a Maryland wife and mother following procedures at a Miami area surgery center has resulted in a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit. Melecia Green, 33, collapsed and died from a pulmonary embolism less than 40 hours after undergoing an abdominoplasty and liposuction at New Life Plastic Surgery in December 2022.

The settlement, totaling $325,000, will provide $164,574 to Melecia’s surviving spouse and $29,042 to her 6-year-old child. The lawsuit, filed by Andrew Green against New Life Plastic Surgery and Dr. Naveed Nosrati, alleged negligence in failing to properly diagnose and treat Melecia’s condition.

According to state records, the settlement amount includes $250,000 paid by Nosrati’s insurer, National Fire & Marine Insurance. The records also indicate that the failure to properly perform the surgery and anticoagulate the patient were factors in Melecia’s death.

The lawsuit highlighted several concerning practices at New Life Plastic Surgery, including the use of outdated consent forms and a lack of transparency regarding the risks associated with the procedures. Despite New Life’s denial of any wrongdoing, the settlement reflects a recognition of the negligence that led to Melecia’s untimely death.

The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of thorough medical evaluation and informed consent in cosmetic surgery procedures. The tragic outcome for Melecia Green and her family underscores the need for accountability and transparency in the medical field to prevent similar incidents in the future.
